Does WSIB accept Canadian Red Cross first aid in Ontario?
Yes. The Canadian Red Cross is on the current WSIB training-provider list. But your course and certificate must match the first aid level your Ontario workplace needs. Red Cross teaches first aid; WSIB sets the rules for workplaces covered by Ontario's workplace insurance law. They are not rival schools.
Pick the first aid level
For a covered workplace with five or fewer people on a shift, WSIB calls for Basic First Aid. With six or more, it calls for Intermediate First Aid. WSIB changed these names in June 2026. Ontario's Regulation 1101 still says Emergency and Standard First Aid. The level matters more than a familiar logo. See the WSIB first aid program and Regulation 1101.
| Check | Basic first aid | Intermediate first aid |
|---|---|---|
| Covered Ontario shift | Five or fewer workers | Six or more workers |
| Older name in the regulation | Emergency | Standard |
| What to ask before booking | Does this course give a current workplace Basic certificate? | Does this course give a current workplace Intermediate certificate? |
A CPR-only class teaches a useful skill, but WSIB says it is not the same as a workplace first aid course. A childcare or other special course should not be treated as a match just because it includes CPR. WSIB explains the difference.
Who gives the certificate?
ActionBafoly teaches Canadian Red Cross courses. The Canadian Red Cross issues the Red Cross certificates. WSIB lists the Red Cross as an approved provider and says an approved provider must issue certificates even when an affiliated trainer teaches the class. Affiliated trainers are listed by their approved parent provider rather than as separate entries in the WSIB directory. Check the exact course level and certificate for your workplace; the current directory is the place to start.
If you trained in Quebec
WSIB says it accepts current Canadian workplace first aid certificates that meet CSA Z1210:17 or Z1210:24. A Quebec course name alone does not tell you if your certificate has the right level. Show your employer the course title, issuer and current certificate. Ask WSIB if the match is unclear. Read WSIB's out-of-province answer.
Quick questions
Is CPR-C alone enough?
No. WSIB says CPR training alone is not workplace first aid training. CPR can be part of an approved first aid course. WSIB
Can I do it all online?
WSIB does not approve online-only first aid courses. It permits approved blended courses with an in-person skills part. WSIB
Does WSIB give me a Red Cross card?
No. The approved training provider issues the certificate. WSIB
Choose your next step
Match the certificate to the job, then choose the class. See ActionBafoly's Basic/Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C course, or send a group training request without paying with your employer's exact requirement. Confirm the course, location and date before booking.
